Exclusive! Daisy Shah on TikTok ban in India: I feel bad for the users who have been the content creators of the app | Hindi Movie News

The Indian Government on June 29 banned 59 Chinese apps including the video-sharing app TikTok. The decision has been receiving mixed reactions from people on social media. We got in touch with Daisy Shah who has been a user of the app in the past. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, she opened up about supporting the Indian Government in their decisions, the content creators of the app and more. Excerpts…

Indian Government has banned the famous TikTok in India. What do you feel about the decision?
The decision has been taken by the Government of India and being a citizen we have to accept it.

I have only been on Tik Tok for 2 months, this ban is more for the people who have been on this for years and years, the actual ‘content creators’.

Do you think this is a significant step by the Indian Government against China?
I support the Indian government in whatever steps they have to take for our country. They have obviously thought this through and done whatever they felt was necessary. PM Modi has always said to support local and I believe this is a step in that direction.

There are so many Chinese products we use in our day to day life. Do you think it is possible to cut off from them all?
There are so many Chinese products that we use in our daily lives, sometimes even unknowingly. A lot of those are technology-related; including your ACs, your fridges, your phones and chargers, most of the electronic devices that we use are manufactured in China in some way or the other. According to me, it’s impossible to cut off all Chinese products, at least right now. I have no idea what the future holds but it seems impossible in our current situation. You can’t stop using the electronics that we rely on in our daily lives. I personally feel that it’s not feasible to cut off all Chinese products.

Have you been a TikTok user too?
I’ve only been a casual TikTok user and have been on the app for just a little above two months, so I’m not particularly affected by the ban. I do feel bad for the users who have been the content creators of the app and have been active on it for years, using it as their platform of choice.

Many TikTok users commanded a huge fan following too. How do you think it will affect their lives?
This will definitely be a massive change for them and it will affect them a lot. Mostly, I feel bad for the TikTok employees in India, it’s a huge change for them and it’s really sad that they will be losing their jobs, which is tough especially in a lockdown. However, I’m sure our government hasn’t taken this step casually and they will have an alternative or backup for the employees.
