The Bihar government on Friday revised the death toll in the state due to lightning and thunderstorm on Thursday. According to the figures released on Friday by the Disaster Management Department in Patna, the death toll in the lightning incidents in various districts of Bihar has climbed to 92.
On Thursday, the death toll figure in Bihar stood at 85. However, the Bihar government revised the figures on Friday as more people lost their lives due to lightning and thunderstorm.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, at least 24 people died when they were struck by lightning on Thursday, while 12 were injured, officials said in Lucknow.
The revised death toll figure in Bihar due to lightning has pushed the combined death toll in the two states to 116. The thunderstorms in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for the past two days has left at least 32 injured.
In Bihar, the state’s Disaster Management Department said on Thursday that Gopalganj district accounted for the maximum number of casualties at 13.
The lightning has also caused widespread damage to houses and belongings of the residents.
