Covid rising in Delhi, but most do not need hospitalisation, says Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said although coronavirus cases in Delhi have been on the rise, most of these are mild cases that do not require hospitalisation. Kejriwal also said that most of the Covid hospitals beds in Delhi are lying vacant as all patients do not require hospital treatment.

Addressing a virtual press conference on Friday, Kejriwal said, “Delhi has been getting mild cases over the past one week. Delhi has been using 6,000 Covid beds for the past week as most cases have mild symptoms. We still have 13,500 Covid beds in Delhi and most are lying unused. We are still increasing bed capacities.”

Kejriwal then went on to say that more beds for future needs are being created in banquet halls and hotels etc. However, he insisted that most of the coronavirus cases in Delhi are mild.

“Delhi has 26,000 coronavirus cases now and only 6,000 are in hospitals. This shows that most of these cases have mild symptoms and can take adequate treatment while staying at home,” said Kejriwal.

He added, “Number of coronavirus cases in Delhi is high but the situation is under control and there is no need to worry. We’ve increased testing by three times but positive cases have increased by around 3,000 per day. Out of the total COVID19 patients, approximately 45,000 people have recovered so far.”

Speaking on the Covid treatment facilities in Delhi, Kejriwal said, “We have permission to conduct plasma therapy at LNJP and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty hospitals. Since the start of plasma therapy at LNJP hospital, the number of deaths has reduced to less than half as compared to earlier.”

He added, “It may be difficult to save very serious patients using plasma therapy, but it can help moderate patients by not letting their condition worsen. This is what we have found till now.”
