Sports writing (USA), Jan 2 (EFE).- Joel Embiid sealed a double double of 42 points and eleven rebounds on Monday and led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 120-111 victory against the New Orleans Pelicans, in the that Zion Williamson took off with physical discomfort.

Embiid finished the game with 15 of 24 shooting and 10 of 10 free throws to add 42 points, to which he also added eleven rebounds and five assists.

The Cameroonian added his eighth game of the year with at least 35 points and ten rebounds and was supported by James Harden’s 27 points and eight assists.

The 76ers inflicted the second straight loss on the Pelicans who lost second place in the West to the Memphis Grizzlies. For those of Philadelphia, George Niang also shone with fifteen points and five triples.

In the Pelicans, Zion will come off in the fourth period due to physical problems when he had 26 points and an excellent ten of twelve shooting, as well as six rebounds and seven assists.

His teammate CJ McCollum had 26 points, with five triples and six assists, without a prize.

The 76ers remain intractable at home, where they have ten consecutive victories and where they have not lost since November 11, when they fell against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

They can count on a tremendously fit Embiid, who started the game with thirteen points and six rebounds in the first period, to give his team an eight-point lead.

The advantage touched fifteen points at 52-37, with a free kick by Harden, although the Pelicans increased the level in the third period and achieved an 8-0 run that helped them get closer to two points, before taking advantage in 81-80.

Zion scored ten points in the third quarter on perfect 5-of-5 shooting, but his game would end soon after when he went to the locker room with a tendon problem in his knee.

Without their star, the Pelicans ended up succumbing to the stellar duo of the 76ers, with Harden who sealed two triples and eleven of his 27 points in the fourth period and Embiid who finished above forty points.

The Philadelphia team is fifth in the East, tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers (22-14). The Cavs sealed a spectacular victory this Monday in overtime against the Chicago Bulls with 71 points from Donovan Mitchell, the sixth best performance ever in the NBA.

It was also the best mark since in 2006 Kobe Bryant signed 81 points for the Los Angeles Lakers in a game against the New York Knicks.

The 76ers will stay at home to face the Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls in an attempt to continue their spectacular home winning streak.

Doc Rivers’ team has a record of 15-5 at home, while the best record in the NBA is the Golden State Warriors, with a 16-2 record before Monday’s games. EFE
